The group insists that any declaration that unleashes untold hardship, collapse of commercial and industrial activities, boycott of Anambra governorship poll, and interrupts the academic calendar in the South East States is nonsensical, absurd and anti-Igbo.
“Ndigbo should check out the investments of those calling for one week Sit at Home. They don’t have any visible investments in the South East. It’s time for Igbo to retreat from observing the Sit at Home.
“Ndigbo should ask anyone ordering the one week sit at home if they know the plight of common people who are street vendors on perishable goods, artisans, motorists and petty traders.
“You can’t enslave Ndigbo for one week without backlash from them. It’s time for Igbo to rise to the occasion or end up being trampled with orders from overseas by those without any investments in the South East.”
In a statement signed by the Secretary General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group reminded IPOB that there have been self-determination struggles in several countries Africa, especially in South Africa, where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in jail, but his party, the African National Congress, ANC, never inflicted suffering on the people.
Ohanaeze stated that it amount to recklessness for IPOB to order people of the South East to observe one week Sit at home when it’s obvious that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will not be released without the approval of courts.
It urged IPOB to learn from the mistakes of the former MASSOB Leader, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, who forced the South East to boycott the 2011 national census of 2001 which made Igbo to become the majority-minority in Nigeria, stressing that any plot to boycott Anambra governorship election will not guarantee a free and fair election.
While calling for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu , Ohanaeze tasked IPOB to nullify the planned one week sit at home or risk losing the support of the Igbo people.
“Ndigbo must participate in Anambra and nothing should stop it,” Ohanaeze said.
