Nebe by the Speaker, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as his Special Assistant,
South East.
A press release by the Conference of APC State Publicity Secretaries,
South East Zone in Awka, Anambra State Capital lamented that the speaker
was favouring non members of the party, against those who worked for his
emergence.
Nebe, the former lawmaker who represented Awka North and South Federal
Constituency is a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)
where he had contested to retain his seat.
A press release signed by the five publicity secretaries of the south
eastern states read, “We reject the appointment of Hon. Anayo Nebe as
Special Assistant (South East) to the Speaker of the Federal House of
Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
“Rt. Hon. Nebe is a dare-devil opposition to APC in Anambra State, the
South East Zone and Nigeria in general. He is instrumental to APC seat
to Awka Federal Constituency elluding our party, even though he lost
also.”
The release which was signed by Kate Offor (Enugu), Chika Nwoba
(Ebonyi), Benedict Godson (Abia), and Okelo Madukaife (Anambra) read
further, “Political positions in the ruling party should not serve to
rehabilitate oppositions who cause damage to our party’s fortunes.
“Registering in future with APC is not even an incentive because ‘the
sun must first shine on those standing before those kneeling’.”
The group said its understanding of the move was that the South West
Caucus of APC from where Gbajabiamila hails was working with opposition
to undo APC in the South East, for an unknown reason, and that such
attitude was highly objectionable to it.
The group said, “One thought that Gbajabiamila rode to power as speaker
on the plank of ‘good and consistent party man’. At least that was the
message in the trumpet. Where are other good party men in the South
East?
“The Senate President made a similar error and promptly corrected it
when issues were raised and there ought to be enough deterrent flowing
from there.
“We have nothing against Rt. Hon Nebe but our zonal caucus has to grow
and it is not by appointing PDP men in APGA clothing, to the detriment
of the long – suffering members of APC.
“We would be interested in knowing why Adams Oshiomhole, National
Chairman of our great party and Bola Ahmed Tinubu who rewards dedication
in the South West were consulted and they allowed this to fly.
“We dissociate ourselves from this appointment and urge South East APC
to rise in justifiable protest against this unjustifiable action.”
