by Our Reporter

In order to boost intelligence gathering and make effective use of local
knowledge to enhance policing, Sokoto Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has
urged the Nigeria Police to deploy lower ranking officers to their states
of origin.

He said move will not only boost community relations, it will also help in
reducing crimes in the society.

Speaking when he received the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG)
in charge of Zone 10, Tambari Muhammad Yabo at the Government House in
Sokoto, Tambuwal said the officers will use their familiarity with the
norms and values of their states to tackle criminal activities.

He said the state government has enjoyed a cordial relationship with the
police and expressed confidence the gesture will continue.

Tambuwal said efforts are on course to revive the state internal security
outfit, known as ‘Operation Mesa’, to complement the efforts of other
security agencies serving in Sokoto state.

In his remarks, AIG Yabo said the zone has embarked on sensitisation tour
to educate officers on the new direction the force is heading to ensure
success of its operations.
