OGUN HEALTH WORKERS TAKE DELIVERY OF 28-YEAR OLD COVID-19 PATIENT

Ogun State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta has successfully delivered a
28-year old COVID-19 patient, of a baby girl.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker who disclosed this
during an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta, said the mother and baby
are doing fine at the hospital’s isolation ward, appreciating the
commitment of the frontline staff for the achievement, as well as the
support of the Federal Government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease
Control (NCDC).

“A team of our Obstetrics and Gynecologists, Pediatricians and Nurse
anesthetists delivered the woman with COVID-19 of a 3.1kg baby girl. The
baby was delivered via normal birth on Tuesday, July 7, 2020. The mother
and baby are doing well.

“Before the delivery, the mother had visited for regular ante-natal, on
18th June 2020, she showed COVID-19 symptoms and was tested; her result
came back positive. She was monitored up to the expected delivery date
and delivered of the baby girl. Sample of the baby has been sent for
COVID-19 screening”, she said

The Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Dr. Nafiu
Aigoro admonished the public not to entertain fear, as necessary
precautions had been taken and all concerned premises decontaminated.

Also speaking, the father of the newborn, who craved anonymity,
appreciated God and Ogun health workers for safe delivery of the baby at
this period, advising the general public to follow laid down guidelines
on COVID-19.

“I strongly believe that COVID-19 exists, I want to encourage people
that test positive not to see it as a death sentence, it is something
that is manageable. When I was told that my wife has the virus, I
subjected her to self-isolation at home, which she did”, he stated
