Housing Deficit: REDAN moves To develop 100 standard housing units across the 774 LGA in Nigeria

Worried by the challenges of housing deficit confronting millions of Nigerians, the Real Estate Development Association of Nigeria, REDAN, has embarked on the initiative to develop at least 100 standard housing units in each of the 774 Local Government Areas of the Federation including the FCT.

The President and Chairman of REDAN, Alhaji Aliyu Oroji Wamakko  who made this known in Abuja while briefing newsmen on the development at the just concluded 40th Shelter Afrique Annual General Meeting held in Yaounde, Cameroon, said the programme is tagged Rural-Urban Housing Initiative, RUHI-774

Explaining further,  Alhaji Wamakko said Shelter Afrique has agreed to finance 12,000 housing units out of which the first phase of 6,000 housing units will be done in August, 2021, a move, he said would enable most Nigerians become house owners.

He stated that Shelter Afrique had already floated a bond worth 191 billion naira in financing housing delivery in Nigeria.

Alhaji  Wamakko emphasized that REDAN was committed to boosting  Nigeria’s building sector local content and the development of the building material production Industry.

Most importantly, he pointed out that the move would also create about 5 million direct and indirect jobs and contribute to national economic development.

While commending Shelter Afrique for its support to the Association, the President reiterated REDAN’s determination to the growth of Nigeria’s housing sector.
