State Director, NOA, Abia State, Lady Dr. Ngozi Okechukwu who stated this during YSAD’s advocacy visit to the agency in Umuahia, lauded the initiative and called for all hands to be on deck to stop extortion of road users by security agents.
While calling for more awareness and sensitization, Lady Okechukwu pledged that NOA would extend support to YSAD to ensure the success of the project.
According to her; “NOA supports this initiative. By embarking on the venture, YSAD is already making NOA’s mission easy. Extortion of road users, especially by those who should be enforcing law and order on the road is regrettable and points to the need for greater awareness and sensitization. NOA in Abia state would extend all necessary support to YSAD and its team as it gets on with the project.”
Earlier, the YSAD project lead, Mr. Obinna Nwagbara, decried the attitude of security agents paid from the public coffers who still extort road users for no just cause.
He stated that the current spate of extortion by security agents create image problems for Nigeria and damages the psyche of the young ones into seeing corruption as a way of life.
Explaining the title of the campaign, “No Dey Give; Follow Traffic Rules”, Nwagbara assured that the campaign would adopt a multi-stakeholder approach in confronting the age long menace.
He disclosed that YSAD is also engaging the National Human Rights Commission, (NHRC) National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW), Abia State ,youth and student organizations and traditional rulers in the state to ensure that the message gets to the grassroots.
