ATTACK ON POLICE STATION: COURT REMANDS 2 IN PRISON

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ugwunagbor Local Government has remanded two suspects in prisons over an alleged attack at the Umuogele police station in Aba, Abia State.

The suspects, Chineye Onyeibe ,aged 32 yrs)and Alozie Obioha 19yrs were alleged to have with others now at large on September 3, attacked Umuogele police station with guns, chased away policemen and in the process aided the escape of one Uche Njoku who was detained at the station for alleged armed robbery and also made away with another tricycle with registration number QV 064 UMA impounded at the station.

Onyeibe and Obioha were also alleged to have forged purchase receipt of a tricycle they allegedly stole from one of their victims and purporting the same to be the original invoice of the robbed tricycle which resulted in its re-registration and new plate number MBA 011 WL allocated to it by the Motor Licensing Authority (MLA), Aba.

The police prosecutor told the court that investigations revealed that Onyeibe and his partner in crime went and forged purchase receipts of ZIMEA NIG LTD ABA and NNA-VIC-GLOBAL UNIQUE LTD,Aba.

According to him, both ZIMES and NNA-VIC -GLOBAL, the owners of the invoice identified the receipts as fakes and denied selling the tricycles to the suspects.

The prosecutor also informed the court that the leader of the gang, Chinenye and others now at large have previously been arrested in Aba in April 2013 for armed robbery but were later transferred to the State C.I.D Umuahia , granted bail and went back to their criminal activities within Ohanku community.

When the charges were read, the suspects who had no legal representation in court pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Grace Ukeje ordered that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and adjourned the matter to January 24, 2014.
